When I turn on my iron, it smells like someone tried to brew a cup of coffee in it. Seriously.
(1) Should I be concerned?
(2) If I wanted it to do something about it, what would I do?
And finally:
(3) What other things could I make my iron smell like?
Discuss.
Extra credit/bonus question: Who the hell was making coffee in my iron?

my mom was always fanatical about using distilled water in her iron. She had a special jug of distilled water in the closet, for her iron. She yelled at me when I used tap water. (Does everyone use distilled water?)
When I got my own iron (because I'm all growed up now) I just said "ehhh" and use tap water. My iron does sometimes spit out a rusty colored rusty smelling bit of water, when it is empty-ish. Just wondering if your problem is similar.
Why can't MY iron smell like coffee? It smells like a penny.
I have a gut feeling that white vinegar will be your friend in this situation, despite not having dealt with a coffee pot-iron myself.
And yeah, my mom always used distilled water too...
*nods* Vinegar oughta do the trick and distilled water was always in the household iron when I was growing up. Maybe that's the future to avoiding further coffee odour? As for other smells . . . how about rose water or something similarly colourless?
Well, it *does* percolate so nicely.
Mmmm, coffee steam.
Yup- clean with white vinegar (just like your coffee pot) and use distilled water for the rest of your LIFE. really.
and you can make it smell like anything ... just a few drops of essential oil in the steam water and you smelling like roses- or lavander, or lemon or eucaliptis (did I spell that right?)
ps. the fairies have been known to do naughty things like "make coffee in your steam iron" you should tell them to go play out in the yard.
I did it. I made the coffee.
Myabe you coffe smells like your iron, not the other way around?
Hmmmm... I say next time you smell the coffee, pour yourself a cup. Maybe you're on to something here.
Vinegar - trust me. I haven't led you astray yet, have I? [Well, let's not count Superbuzzy...] ;)
